Purpose of Position

This position will have an essential role in the implementation of the Cognitive Impairment Diversion Program (CIDP). The CIDP is a two year pilot program which has three key objectives: 

  1. Provide clinical identification and specialist cognitive testing for persons with cognitive disabilities to enable the Court to make well informed diversionary decisions without delay
  2. Work in partnerships with both government and non-government organisations to provide an efficient and effective pathway to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for people assessed as having an cognitive disability to minimise their unnecessary exposure to the criminal justice system  
  3. Increase Magistrates’ use of diversion orders for people with mental health and cognitive impairment who appear before court for low level, early offending to reduce further offending and improve health outcomes for those diverted.

Selection Criteria 1. Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with a Masters degree or
higher in Clinical Psychology or some other recognised clinical area in psychology (e.g. Forensic Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology).

The postgraduate qualification must be of no less than two years full time duration (or part-time equivalent) and include professional clinical coursework, clinical training and supervised placement experience as core components.

2. Demonstrated experience in the provision of psychological assessment, case formulation and psychological interventions.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychometric, neuropsychological and risk assessments.

4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cognitive behavioural therapeutic interventions for the delivery of services to adults with Intellectual Disability, Acquired Brain Injury and Mental Health/ Drug and Alcohol issues.

5. Knowledge of the New South Wales disability sector, including the NDIS, and the public psychiatry hospital system and community mental health facilities in NSW.

6. Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team and assist in the decisions and management regarding patient care.

7. Excellent psychological report writing skills, good communication and interpersonal skills and established problem solving ability.

8. NSW Drivers Licence and ability to drive to various court locations as required.
