Purpose of Position

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is part of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. This involves collaboration regarding service improvement and sharing of resources, such as education and expertise. Staff rotations and secondments may occur to support networking outcomes.

The Department of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) cares for infants and children requiring intensive care or high dependency treatment. PICU is a specialised paediatric unit which provides care for approximately 1400 infants, children and adolescents each year.

The department complements its clinical work with active research and quality assurance programs.

The department strives for excellence in the delivery of care for critically ill children including both peri and post operative t children with a wide range of disease processes. This necessarily involves conducting clinical trials and quality assurance activities funded by diverse sources. The department actively collaborates with other medical, surgical and allied health disciplines in both clinical work and research activities.

The department is seeking a Research Officer to be actively involved in a range of projects in caring for critically ill children.

The preferred applicant will be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title in the Faculty of Medicine of The University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the Discipline of Paediatrics & Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for research and clinical matters.

 

This position is Temporary Part Time working 19 hours per week up to 17/02/2019 and is classified as an Health Service Manager Level 1.

Selection Criteria 1. A relevant doctoral or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution

2. Minimum 3 years full time equivalent research or other relevant experience

3. Proficiency with database management systems and skills in relevant specialist software such including statistical and graphing software.

4. Experience with ethics procedures, ICH-GCP and other regulatory procedures

5. High level of self-motivation and demonstrated ability to conduct research activities with minimal supervision.

6. Demonstrated capacity to produce high quality data suitable for publication in peer-reviewed publications and to present at appropriate national and international forums.

7. Excellent organisational, communication, record-keeping skills and ability to meet deadlines.
