Purpose of Position

This Position is primarily based between the Community and Murwillumbah District Hospital to provide medical, clinical and consultancy service in palliative care to inpatient and community based clients and their families within the Northern NSW Local Health District. Northern NSW LHD (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Palliative Care Specialist to work within its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients.  The position will be primarily located at Murwillumbah District Hospital and in the community, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services to provide support for other facilities in the NNSWLHD.

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position.  Applicants should have Fellowship of the Australiasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine and/or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award)  Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.  If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualificaitons and requirements are formally completed. 

 

Staff Specialists enjoy generous remuneration along with Training Education & Study Leave allowances.   Relocation and accommodation incentives may be offered to the successful applicant. 

 

With a rapidly growing population needing a comprehensive range of services, we are excited about the recent announcement of $534 Million awarded to develop a greenfield hospital in the Tweed region. This is currently in planning stage.   At the same time, The Tweed Hospital is being upgraded with additional inpatient beds and additional operating theatres. Clinicians are actively engaged in development of models of care, workforce planning and building design to ensure the new hospital is person centred enabling contemporary health care delivery.

Selection Criteria Medical Practitioner eligible for specialist unconditional registration in Australia (AHPRA) holding FRACP & FAChPM or other relevant specialist qualification as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award

Recent demonstrated experience in Specialist Palliative Care in the Hospital and Community showing ability to communicate effectively with the palliative care patients and families

Demonstrated ability to participate, work & communicate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Demonstrated commitment to uphold the philosophies and objectives of the palliative care services and to providing high quality health services and continuity of care to the local community

Possession of a current driver's licence. Required to work primarily between the Community and Murwillumbah District Hospital, however must be willing to provide support to The Tweed Hospital & Byron Central Hospital

Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, research and in evaluation of professional practice service and delivery

Ability to participate in an on-call roster for NNSW LHD facilities not exceeding 1:4

Computer Skills - able to utilize computer skills to comply with requirements in relation to Electronic Medical Records, Discharge Summaries and other electronic files as required
