Purpose of Position

The position works closely with the Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director, Drug and Alcohol, the Clinical Nurse Consultants, Nurse Practioners, the state wide post release care planning services; relevant service site Nurse Unit Managers / Nurse Managers, and Drug and Alcohol Service staff specialist colleagues, to ensure evidence based care is provided to patients and clinical risks are identified early and managed well.

Selection Criteria 1. Current registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligible for same. The specialist qualifications relevant to this position include Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

2. Experience in prescribing methadone/suboxone/buprenorphine and accredited and authorised prescriber in NSW or willingness to undertake same.

3. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and clinical experience in the management of patients with drug and alcohol problems including dependence and withdrawal states.

4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. This includes demonstrated ability to build a strong and positive work culture within a team.

5. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills including computer literacy and ability to use all standard applications required by NSW Ministry of Health.
