Purpose of Position

Provide senior medical services and clinical leadership to DHS, primarily at Campbelltown and Liverpool Hospitals in order to ensure the delivery of quality clinical services to the population of South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) by providing clinical addiction medicine services and developing relevant partnerships with other health care providers, including general practitioners.  The staff specialist will provide clinical consultation services within SWSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within DHS.


Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

Selection Criteria Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and FAChAM (advanced training in addiction medicine) and/or other specialist recognition as provided for the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Approved opioid pharmacotherapy prescriber in NSW and or a commitment to achieve this status within 3 months of appointment.

Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.

Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management with demonstrated experience and expertise in providing drug and alcohol related clinical services and experience in a relevant sub-specialty relevant to Addiction Medicine such as pain management, perinatal and family drug health or other.

Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.

Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/continuing professional development.

Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of public health organisation, including the provision of services to local community, effective utilisation of resources, preparedness to participate in provision of health services at a district level, if credentialed.

Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established, if requested and credentialed.

Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team.
