Purpose of Position
  1. To provide subspecialty Colorectal surgical services to patients of HNELHD
  2. To provide elective an non-elective general surgical care to patients of JHH and BDH
  3. To provide supervision, training and teaching to JMOs, RMOs, surgical trainees,Fellows and medical students of the University of Newcastle.

4.    Positive contribution to the development of clinical service in General surgery for the Greater Newcastle Sector.

5.    Positive contribution to development of the Surgical and Trauma Services for John Hunter Hospital, and Greater Newcastle Sector, with an emphasis on safety, innovation, teamwork and the development of common evidence-based clinical protocols and guidelines

6.    Participation in continuing surgical education and/or teaching programs with respsect to General Surgery and trauma care.

7.    Active participation in clinical audit.

8.    Commitment to development of training positions in General Surgery.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and committed Colorectal General Surgeon to join the team at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, NSW. The person we are looking for will provide state of the art management of lower gastrointestinal tract surgical conditions and help to increase the national profile of our Colorectal Unit through surgical excellence and innovation, research and advanced training.

You will be an advocate for patient safety and public health, particularly in the areas of colorectal cancer and colorectal diseases and provide consultations on the wards, in critical care areas and outpatient clinics.

Selection Criteria Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Salaried Senior Medical Practitioners Award or VMO Award.

FRACS in general surgery. Eligibility to register as a specialist with the New South Wales Medical Board with evidence of medical indemnity.

Successful completion of CSSANZ post-fellowship training program or equivalent.

Accreditation by Conjoint Committee for Endoscopy
• Gastroscopy
• Colonoscopy

Demonstrated commitment to and track record in clinical research, quality control, and education and training for undergraduates, JMOs, RMOs, and surgical trainees.

Proven clinical competence in surgical practice in General Surgery. Ability to participate in general surgical and trauma surgery on call roster at tertiary level hospital as well as subspecialty colorectal expertise. Experience in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques in colorectal surgery.

High level written and oral communication skills to deliver high quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Evidence of the possession of interpersonal skills that enable flexible roles within multidisciplinary teams.
