To provide high quality, holistic, best practice anaesthetic services to inpatients and outpatients of The Maitland Hospital and other Lower Hunter Sector facilities. Provide clinical leadership and operational management of anaesthetic services to complement the clinical, teaching, training and research activities of the GNSM2 Anaesthetic Network.

Applications are sought for the above position within the department of Anaesthesia at The Maitland Hospital in New South Wales. The Maitland Hospital is looking for an experienced consultant to help deliver Excellence in clinical care, every patient, every time.

The Maitland Hospital is a 170 bed rural referral facility that services the Upper and Lower Hunter Region and the cities and towns of Maitland, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Dungog and Raymond Terrace. The Anaesthetic department is highly motivated and committed to teaching and training, running in-house exam preparation courses as well as clinical teaching sessions and practical workshops.

Maitland is located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, just two hours north of Sydney and 30 minutes to Newcastle. The Hunter Region encompasses charming towns and villages, rolling vineyards and beautiful National Parks of the Hunter Valley, Upper Hunter and Barrington Tops. Only 30 minutes to Newcastle and its world renowned beaches or the beautiful calm waters of Port Stephens, you will find the perfect balance of coastline with countryside.

Selection Criteria Registrable as a medical practitioner with the AHPRA. Fellowship of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or the Health Insurance Act of 1973.

Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by experience in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience

Evidence of and commitment to medical education including the delivery of undergraduate teaching programmes. Education skills to enable suitable teaching for medical and other staff including undergraduate students.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team especially during periods of high demand and activity

Demonstrated ability to actively seek out improvements to service delivery, initiating change and consulting with those affected by the changes; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflicts

Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills and demonstrated planning, organisational and problem solving abilities. High level of computer literacy

Demonstrated ability as a leader to communication vision and strategy effectively; inspire and motivate others toward the achievement of goals and create a values based organisational culture
