The VMO in Emergency Medicine will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Emergency Department at Prince of Wales Hospital.

The Prince of Wales Hospital is an urban tertiary referral centre with affiliation with the University of New South Wales.  The Emergency Department sees approximately 60 000 adult presentations per year and has a co-located 10 bed Short Stay Unit – with plans to commission a further 5 short stay beds in 2019.  The hospital has all major medical and surgical sub-specialties represented on-campus and one of two of NSW’s spinal units and the only public hyperbaric unit, as well as 24-hour pathology and radiological services (including CT scanning and MRI facilities).

 

The position will be primarily located at Prince of Wales Hospital but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Clinical Services and as approved by MADAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Prince of Wales Hospital seeks to employ Visiting Medical Officers in Emergency Medicine. The applicant should hold evidence of registration or eligibility for Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.  The Visiting Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine is responsible for providing excellent clinical services to patients and their families, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The position will be primarily located at Prince of Wales Hospital but may be varied as agreed.

The successful candidate may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine.  The level of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience.

The applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Selection Criteria 1. Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA);

2. Fellowship of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973;

3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position;

4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality in Emergency Medicine services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty;

5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital;

6. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate to a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff;

7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites;

8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
