Purpose of Position
  • The DCD PC is responsible for the provision of clinical management regarding general medical health care services within a range of health care settings of The Network.  The position will work collaboratively with the NUM, Service Directors and Clinical Directors to enhance the existing services in line with organisational needs and best practice.
  • The Clinical Service Delivery may include:
    • Outpatient clinics, including Emergency care at Health Centres.
    • ROAMS – Remote/Offsite/Afterhours Medical Service – providing general health telephone consultation advice to nurses regarding patient care.
  • The position may require some travel within NSW.


The position of Deputy Clinical Director Primary & Women's Health will be working and supporting the Clinical Director Primary & Women's Health. The Deputy Clinical Director has strong working relationships with external agencies and across Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JH&FMHN) Directorates and Clinical Streams including, Mental Health, Adolescent Health, Population Health, Long Bay Hospital, The Forensic Hospital, Drug & Alcohol, Operations and Nursing.


JH&FMHN is a state-wide Specialty Health Network delivering health care to adults and young people in contact with the forensic mental health and criminal justice systems across community, inpatient and custodial settings.

This is a full-time position but the ability to job share will be considered for suitable applicants.


Selection Criteria 1. Current medical registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), FRACGP and / or other specialist recognition as provided for the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

2. Knowledge and commitment to clinical governance, clinical best practice, continuous quality improvement, outcome evaluation, equal employment opportunity and work health & safety and a demonstrated ability to work within agreed timeframes and to manage competing priorities effectively.

3. Demonstrated significant experience in General Practice with knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, or Rural Medicine an advantage.

4. Demonstrated commitment to professional Continuing Medical Education and to teaching of other health care workers including students.

5. Willingness to comply with the objectives of JH&FMHN in providing health care with willingness to commit and participate in equitable GP clinical services across health centres as needed, Remote Off-site After-hours Medical Service (ROAMS) roster and valid driver's licence.

6. Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team in delivering patient care. Demonstrated ability to build on professional relationships with relevant stakeholders both internal and external to the team.

7. Comprehensive understanding of clinical care and various clinical models of care and associated clinical information systems and ability to use computer applications such as email, intranet, MS Word and electronic medical care systems.

8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and be involved in JH&FMHN multi-disciplinary multispecialty case reviews.
