Purpose of Position


  • Provide Specialist clinical care of babies at birth and babies requiring neonatal intensive care and follow up.
  • Provide antenatal counselling and contribute to maternal-foetal team counselling and educational activities.
  • Contribute and lead quality improvement activities for the neonatal intensive care unit.
  • Contribute to and support research into neonatal care.
  • Contribute to education of undergraduate and postgraduate staff.
  • Contribute to the Hunter NETS transport service
Selection Criteria Senior Medical Officer with current Authority to Practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with recognized training in neonatal-perinatal medicine.

Evidence of extensive clinical experience, including care of surgical neonatal-perinatal medicine.

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.

Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

Demonstrated involvement with clinical practice improvement initiatives (including familiarity and knowledge of quality improvement tools)

Demonstrated skills in neonatal echocardiography including ASUM qualification
