Purpose of Position

The position is a rotating 24/7 shift working position including weekends shared with other technical and scientific staff in the Transfusion laboratory and other Pathology West labs labs as required.



Enthusiastic scientist with extensive Blood Bank experience is required for a busy, major trauma centre Transfusion laboratory. The position involves working 24/7 shifts and is based at Westmead Hospital but may require travel to other Pathology West laboratories if the need arises.

This position is Permanent full time, working 38 hours per week (24 hours, 7 day week rotating roster) and is classified as a Hospital Scientist.

Selection Criteria Bachelor of Science or Applied Science with subjects relevant to Pathology. (Original qualifications or assessment will have to be supplied at time of interview)

Extensive experience in a Transfusion and Immunohaematology laboratory.

Must be able to participate in 24/7 shifts and able to work rostered nightshifts (minimum of 4 consecutive), afternoon shifts (minimum of 6 consecutive) and weekend shifts on a shared basis as required in a 24hour/7day shift roster.

Must be able to participate in an On-Call roster and hold a current NSW Drivers licence be prepared to drive to other Pathology West laboratories.

High Level verbal & written communication skills, demonstrated skills and able to demonstrate high level problem solving skills.

Experience with Pathnet Classic, Pathnet Millennium or other LIS system. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite of products especially Word, Excel and Access.

Demonstrate sound knowledge NATA ISO 15189 requirements and other accepted industry standards and have sound knowledge of Quality Systems.
