Purpose of Position

The position of Team Leader Aboriginal Health is responsible for the day to day management, supervision and support of a team of Aboriginal Health workers and within their specified locations.

The Team Leader Aboriginal Health is required to maintain a comprehensive and well-coordinated service in accordance with the policies and standards of the respective Aboriginal programs and services. This requires collaboration with the team members, Coordinators Aboriginal Health and the Aboriginal Health Manager. Responsibilities include day to day management of the team, supporting team members in planning, development and evaluation of the programs and services as well as identifying professional training and staff development needs of the team and reports to the Manager of Aboriginal Health.



This is a Permanent Full Time position, working 38 hours  per week, and classified as Health Manager Level 2. This position is located in Griffith and belongs to Murrumbidgee Local Health District. 



Selection Criteria 1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with local Aboriginal community.

2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in an allied health profession or other appropriate discipline or relevant high level experience and/or working towards relevant degree with demonstrated experience in providing supervision, leadership and support to staff.

3. Demonstrated andf recent experience in analysis, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating Aboriginal programs and services.

4. Proven ability and experience in Aboriginal community development and health education/promotion.

5.Demonstrated knowledge of current Commwealth, State and Local Aboriginal health priorities and demonstrated networking skills and knowledge of local Aboriginal resources.

6. Demonstrated hish level interpersonal, written and oral communication and computer skills.

7. Demonstrated skills in consultation, listening, negotiation and conflict resolution and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

8. Evidence of current NSW Class C drivers licence and a willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances with the Health Service.
